Gemini is such a breath of fresh air in comparison with the Web. It just seems to pure in comparison.

@tskaalgard Of course. It hasn鈥檛 *completely* replaced it for me, either. It鈥檚 not designed to, but I find myself preferring to browse it over using any social media. 路 2 years ago
@cobradile94 Gemini hasn't like, completely replaced the Web for me or anything but I find myself spending more and more time here as the months go on. It really does feel like the old Web in some ways, and yet is a lot more approachable and usable than Gopher. It's great. 路 2 years ago
I know exactly what you mean! Gemini does a fantastic job at recreating that thrill of exploration and community the World Wide Web lost years ago! I legit find myself exploring Gemini rather than use social media on my phone or iPad when I鈥檓 not on my PC. I haven鈥檛 even touched thise apps in a long time. 路 2 years ago
in a way this also means that a lot of "inhabitants" of geminispace are developers and sysadmins. and bloggers that also hang out on gother. i keep pondering about discovery and all that, still. gemini is great, and parts of it are not so great. in the end i spend my time rather here than anywhere else. i'm happy that it exists :p 路 2 years ago
Yeah. It's very satisfying to be using something small and simple enough that building a client and server can be readily achieved by a single person in their spare time. The increased independence from profit motives, from corporations, is really nice. This is what I'd like to see more of: useful production in the margins, independent (as much as possible) from corporations.
This feeling is also what's been driving my grumpiness with things like Tik-Tok as of late, to be honest. I really dislike that we're so dependent on corporations for the formation of our culture and relationships these days. Gemini is really a nice step back from all that. Very cozy in comparison. 路 2 years ago
