New Apartment Woes
~tetris
Hi folks, been a while -- was coordinating The Grand Migration of one apartment to another.
Lessons learned
- Read the damn contract. If you moved in and no one painted the apartment for you, then you don't need to paint it on the way out.
- Spam your landlord. Make it very clear what damage existed before and what didn't, and make sure you clarify on every action required to get your deposit back.
- Be nice to your neighbors. Even those you barely speak to, if you lather them up with leaving gifts they're likely to forgive you for the racket of transporting a washing machine down 4 flights of stairs.
- Have a large extended family. If you don't have a large extended family, make sure that your SO has a large extended family. Five people ready to dedicate resources to your problem at a moment's notice is not something I'm used to, but boy was it incredibly helpful.
- Clean, clean, clean. The apartment might be a piece of junk, but if it's a *clean* piece of junk then it's basically a palace, and no one can claim you denigrated it by living in it.
- Don't take a holiday 2 weeks before the deadline. You won't enjoy the holiday, and you won't enjoy all the extra work when you get back.
- Keep all your current contracts if you can. If you're on an old energy contract, try to keep it when you move. Same with internet.
- Resolve every fight with your SO via a shared meal. If you break bread, all the drama before is washed away under the banner of "we were just exhausted".
- Download movies/cartoons/anime at work, so that you have something on your phone to watch in the evenings.
Anime watched over the last few weeks
- SpyXFamily: Cool triple-deceit concept, but the characters are boring.
- Tokyo Revengers: Cool time-travel concept, but the main character is at least 2 steps behind the audience which gets annoying.
- Mushishi S2: Lovely visuals, beautiful story, and given the slow and gentle way people talk (or barely at all) to one another, the animators must have enjoyed making this one.
- Humanity has Declined: Great meta-commentary on the state of the world, with some nice bouts of amnesia and out-of-order storytelling involving Nature, Industries, and Faeries.
Looking forward to the end of this week, when all this moving drama is over and I can mentally move on with my life.

Thanks for the tips, ~tetris! Can definitely relate to the resolving of fights point. Exhaustion is a heck of a thing and sneaks up on you when you're not expecting it to. Hope the rest of the move goes smoothly.
