A look back at this year's milestones

• found new owners for my seven-year-old bike and my two-year-old desktop PC
• first trip to Howard County by cycling country roads across the Patuxent River
• first time riding a bike with hydraulic disk brakes and tubeless tires
• first dabbling with OpenBSD as my daily driver OS
• first permanent installation of an outdoor HDTV antenna in seven years of owning the house
• first use of a motorized lawn mover in seven years of owning the house
• last use of the Falcon Hall swimming pool
• first use of the Rockville campus swimming pool
• last use of classrooms and office space in Science South
• attended the last live music performance in the planetarium
• witnessed and helped with the emptying out of the planetarium
• witnessed the waning functionality of NPR's First Listen series
• witnessed the disbanding of the White Oak chess club
• first opportunity to serve as a federal trial juror
• first time playing mid-day ultimate at UMD
• first use of the Ireland Trail to connect from Rock Creek Trail to East Silver Spring
• first use of a grill at one of the Montgomery County public parks
• first visit inside the UTC campus of Prince George's Community College
