Considering how everything is broken[1], I find it a bit worrying to advise people to self-host. All it takes is one bad configuration to leave a system vulnerable and exploitable by threat actors. You already mentioned this in the beginning of your talk, but I still feel the need to emphasise this. One needs to know what they're doing if they choose to selfhost.
Besides, I think there is an enviromental aspect to host collectively and have share computing / storage resources
