Finally, an appropriate first post for my gemlog.
Most of my attention has been on setting up Oriean Space. Where I host this very capsule! So the Orion Transmissions were the place I actually began serving "content". Nevertheless, I thought appropriate to make an introductory post for my gemlog.
This is that post.
I was tangentially aware of smolnet, but had never engaged with it. I've heard the name gopher, but all I knew was "it's old-school interwebs". What really brought me to gemini in the fist place, was the game I'm developing and the will to make a (simple) page and devlog for said game. Then a lot of stuff just unfurled before me. How to set up a server, how do tildes/pubnixes work and how to build my own, setting up VMs, network/access testing and limiting, working with Linux, among others. All things I've only tickled the surface or knew nothing at all.
And so my journey began.
As mentioned, this capsule is hosted on mt own. But to be clear, the capsule is hosted at a Station of Oriean Space, the OSS-Betelgeuse. And I refer to capsules hosted here as being "docked" at the Station. After getting into Gemini I very quickly scrambled to set up a capsule, I saw some places that could offer me a capsule but I'm a bit picky and given how simple it actually is, hosting my own was not a hard decision to make.
I'll not get into the hows and whys of Oriean Space here, the project is being ostesibly documented on it's own page. I'll leave this gemlog for more personal matters. Feel free to check out Oriean Space and Orion Transmissions to keep up to date with everything that's happening over there.
