Well, I tried to install plasma mobile on my old phone, and I couldn't get it to work. So I guess here's the about me post finally.
I'm an aircraft mechanic by day and a procrastinating programmer by hobby. I'm pretty sure I'm 27 and a dude. I took up coding about 3 years ago at a very slow job, starting with python. I was always interested in learning, but never had the gumption to actually do it. I guess what I really needed to get started was to sit at a desk and get paid to not do much. There were some simple jobs that I knew there had to be a better way to get done. There were some files that I essentially needed to combine into a new format. I came across the book I'm sure most of you have at least heard about, called "Automate the Boring Stuff with Python." And that was the start of never finishing the projects I started because someone else started doing that job. I knew I wasn't happy at my current job and wanted something else.
This was also the time that I started jumping between languages, learning java shortly after as well as C++. I didn't learn much C++ before I gave up on it because the job prospects were low. I had some small projects that I spent more time on such as a dart program to keep score and a program that would help my coworkers to make sure that someone was at the building when needed. Of course this project didn't get finished because it probably needed to be an online or at least over email but I just made it with Java.
After I left this job for another aircraft maintenance job, I decided that I should make something that as many people as possible could enjoy. I started with Java and Kotlin making native Android apps. I made several small apps and then started to make a larger app that would be my first on the play store. It was based on the idea that people didn't all have a single set of rules for drinking games such as beer pong and kings. I made an app with good functionality, if I do say so myself, where people could create and view drinking games. I even made it to where you could go to another person's profile and see what they're playing at the time. You could take a template of a game and edit it for the rule set you play with. If you search "Drinking Buddies" on the Play store you might find that it isn't there. That's because I never posted it. I made it using Firebase which is terrible for privacy. I never did the final debugging and that kind of thing. I forget why I ultimately stopped working on that app, I probably realized that I don't like Google and therefore Firebase, made by Google of course. I never learned enough to migrate away.
After that, I've been trying to make programs that are work focused. Working on aircraft, these were mostly based on the current status of the plane. Maybe it would show current ETAs or work that needs to be done as well as work that has already been done. Interrupting those projects was rather simple because, as I've said, I don't like web dev. I interrupted myself to try to learn Spring Boot, ktor, Django, Node.js etc. I would never get very far because I would get trapped in the tutorial purgatory, wanting to expand but never really learning how or just not wanting to use that language. I came up with complaints for all of them such as not good enough tutorials with Spring Boot, too much to learn with Django, etc. I wanted something that I couldn't find which was creating JavaScript enabled web pages but creating my own back end. Eventually, I gave up.
At this point in time, I'm not looking to be a professional programmer. I would like that nice salary but I think I'd rather be a mechanic, working with my hands all day. I think I'm better suited to coding as a hobby. I did finally set up and email and it's PlaneJack@protonmail.com so you can scream at me about how I need to use getElementById instead of findElementById or that I should give up on JavaScript or I need to keep working on the web page that I kind of finished. You should really send me instructions on how to install Plasma Mobile on Postmarketos on my old Moto G5 Plus.
