I’ve been doing spaced repetition for about 4 years and it’s amazing to see the long term results. I now regularly get flashcards over a year old and my brain has no problem finding them. SRS is the best thing you can do to retain information long-term. 🧠

FYI: I mostly use Anki (🐐) and create flashcards for languages I’m learning. SRS work for anything, of course, not just vocab. I do have a few other decks containing ideas, quotes, and prompts I want to retain as well.

I tried Anki for some speficic topics, the main point is to use it daily. I couldn't keep up the pace for more than a few weeks, but it was really useful already. Β· 5 months ago

@averphos Write your own cards (avoid picking decks from others). The act of writing them yourself is a key part of forming the memory. Be harsh with yourself in your answers – better to see things more often if they're not super easy to recall. With language specifically, always add sentences to give the word/words/phrase context. That'll really help you store and recall it, vs. individual uncontexualised words. Hope that helps! Β· 5 months ago

Have been wanting to do this myself. Any tips on getting started, that you wish you had known at the start? Β· 5 months ago
