Haiku OS and FreeBSD are currently my favorite systems on my laptop. On bare metal I run FreeBSD 13.2 and with VirtualBox Haiku OS on it. I love both. Haiku is in a very stable beta 4 stage and getting better and better. The desktop theme is coming from the old BEOS. It is fully functional with many apps and modern code. Both system are free and open source. Always good to give them a try, at least to play around in Virtualbox. FreeBSD is a little bit harder to install, including a desktop environment. There is NomadBSD, a live system for usb-stick with a very modern desktop, built on top of FreeBSD. Another favorite and I use it often.

I'm going to very seriously approach this, and I'm going to build from this point too! I don't know python either so might as well, lol. gemini://userfxnet.flounder.online/codeinpyez.jpg

Finally decided to abandon my #Reddit account. With all the bots, the trolls, the tracking, and the imbeciles, it's more trouble than it's worth, in my opinion. I've replaced it with #Libreddit for now. How long will this last? I guess I'll have to wait and see.

This might be the sort of thing that gets me on Gemini!

I see Google-style robots.txt rules like /*.jpg$ in the wild. As far as I understand, this is not valid under gemini robots.txt spec, or at least not like it's intended. Or did I get that wrong? Anybody else following those rules?

I think I've finally fixed the bad gateway errors plaguing my gemini proxy server. Something to do with HTTP Keep-Alive losing connections between apache and gunicorn. I love solving these kinds of problems at work, but it's such a time sink for a hobby project where free time is precious.

paper bags keep failing me more often than not. hate them for most applications. good fuel for campfire starting, though.

Let me reiterate in this venue that I _hate_ Ubuntu snaps. They never work quite well. For example, the way Firefox updates are handled is just abhorrent. You get a notification that there is an update pending, but Firefox needs a restart, but it won't really work unless you do that in the short window that the update is actually retried.

Gemini is getting more and more interesting. I'm crawling around and find many interesting sites. And it's so relaxing, just to read text.

Just came across this post: gemini://ploum.be/2023-02-22-leaving-github.gmi. I just needed a gentle reminder to get out of github. I'll be making preperations to make the migration soon. I already have a paid sr.ht account, so that's where I'll be heading. I can also think of other services that I want to start migrating out of. I'll probably make a page on my capsule to keep track of what I need to do, and keep a log of things that are done.

Good news! The installation of a new server has finished. I directly started my "new" capsule and wrote some stuff. It is again in German language and the themes are the old ones: diabetes typ 2, living vegan. I will make a new topic about pc themes like FreeBSD and Haiku. And I made a backup of the content...

I am letting my 2325 day Duolingo streak die. Duolingo quickly turned out to be not that educational to me. I just kept on the streak because it's the sort of thing my brain keeps forcing me to do. But at this point, the amount of streak freezes that I use is just rediculous and the whole thing is entirely pointless. Not to mention the fact that Duolingo has become complete enshittified as Cory Doctorow would put it.

A smarter CAPCOM is on the way, with support for regular Gemini feeds: gemini://gemini.circumlunar.space/news/2023_04_16.gmi This is great news and should improve the liveliness of the feed quite a bit.

Does anyone know how to get a Gemini server set up on a Raspberry Pi 3b+? I know that may sound a bit dumb, but I've given myself a headache trying to get it set up... I have no issue, like, using ssh to get into the pi and whatever, but I don't really know how to connect my domain to anything?? Or get everything set up properly???

As someone who understands these things very little, it seems to me that a Gemini plain text (or even gemtext) email client might be very nice indeed. Is this a bad idea? Is it feasible? I can think of a few drawbacks, but none that would be absolutely prohibitive.

I just had an idea for a forum type thing that could be hosted on gemini. The big problem to solve would be how do I post content? input requests are very limiting, but works. Instead, you could integrate email into the gemapp. This could be done with sendto links where you click say a reply link, it opens your email to send a message to my@app.net with the subject 're:<post-id'. When the message is sent, a new reply would be added to that post. This feels similar to a mailling list, but not quite the same. There are probably plenty of reasons why this wouldn't work, but I would test it out if I didn't have so many other things I'm working on already.
