Typical

It's usually not a good sign when I'm yelling at the radio first thing in the morning.

There is no integrity in politics. This isn't really surprising, but it's still disappointing to see that nobody even cares any more.

Specifically, I'm referring to the comical situation in Florida and Michigan. The super-condensed version goes like this: The Democratic National Committee told Florida and Michigan, "Look, if you hold your primaries before February 5th, then your votes won't count." (they let 4 other states hold theirs before then, but the stupid machinations that led up to that decision are not interesting to me). Florida and Michigan both apparently felt that supreme entitlement with which all self-important politicos are endowed and went ahead and held their primaries early.

Guess what happened.

Their votes weren't counted! Just like they were warned!

If only it would have stopped there. A rule was made, a choice was made to ignore the rule, a consequence was applied. That's the way the world is supposed to work! This wasn't an oppressive regime stomping on the inherent rights of the citizenry, this was a stupid political party, which you choose to be a part of, enforcing its own rules on itself.

Cue the hue and cry of the oppressed masses. "Oh woe is me! My vote isn't being counted! Fraud! Discrimination! Oppression!" Good grief, to hear them speak you'd think they were one step away from summary execution and burial in a mass grave. It's so unfair to be punished!

I'd laugh if I wasn't so depressed for my kids' future.

So yeah, now the DNC, which had actually demonstrated some backbone, is discussing in what form they're going to cave. Should we count half of the votes? Maybe all of them? Honestly, if there's no consequence for breaking the rules, why bother having them at all!

It's a perfect illustration of what's wrong with politics...people...society at large. Don't change yourself...change the rules!
