Checking in – February 2023

Once again, this month has been much too busy for me to handle effectively. So I will dedicate about one paragraph to each of these.

Yeah, it was definitely a weak month all put together. I have not even found the time to do normal routine things like setting up the goals for the month and summarising. I don't know, things just take too much time, or time passes by too quickly.

I have been getting deep into the xenharmonic tone. In particular, I've got an appreciation for Easley Blackwood, who wrote twelve songs cutting up the octave into 13 ~ 24 parts (ordinary tuning uses 12). I'd like to highlight these four:

17edo "Con Moto"

15edo "Lento"

Fanfare in 19

19edo "Allegro Moderato"

I have been listening to the second one in particular on repeat, and have gained an appreciation as to what makes a musical scale and why we have "white" and "black" keys on a piano.

Japanese course is going great. I think I can do well in the exam tomorrow. I will study a bit though.

I haven't been applying for PhDs at all recently. It feels too daunting still. I want to change it eventually.

I have a number of small projects that I need to enumerate properly so I can actually look at them in one place. And then actually look at it so that I can work towards them.
