Make or somehow otherwise produce a loaf or two of sourdough bread...
(this may fail with bread that has an open crumb ymmv)
Do your best to get consistent sized slices, and let stand while you whip up...
(for abt 6-8 slices) a cup of cream/milk with 3 eggs, a healthy dash of nutmeg (and of salt if the bread isn't too salty to begin with)
Turn oven on to 375F (I use a toaster oven on full blast) and soak bread in custard for 30 seconds on each side (yes, that mixture is custard) (best to use a large vessel that can fit a bunch of slices)
Take the bread out and allow to rest on a wire rack, to drain off excess custard (you can drip that back on the bread slices as they cook)
Heat your favorite skillet and melt ~1TBSP of butter in it, then cook the slices in it until both sides are "sealed", and place them on a sheet in the hot oven...
watch the magic happen. The slices will puff up.
Eat them... put more butter on them. Drizzle syrup all over them. Dust with more nutmeg and powdered sugar. Place fruit all over. Have fun with it.
