Peterson’s fourth rule

1. “Compare yourself to who you were yesterday, not to who someone else is today.”

Super simple: you can look to others for inspiration or direction, but you have to look at yourself to see growth. Comparing yourself to others is useless. You end up over or under estimating yourself, at best.

Also seems to cover setting goals that push you, but are possible to obtain.
