Smells

I’ve lost most of my sense of smell, stuff has to be pretty close to smell it unless it’s a strong smell.

Trying to smell almost anything up close hurts my nose.

I can’t smell oily dog smell, only the neutral dog smell.

Some smells are different now, too. Vinegar smells like something different. It’s an uncomfortable acidic smell. I used to like the smell of vinegar, the sweet salt-and-vinegar-chip smell, but now it smells bad.

Coffee smells the same, but I can’t smell it without holding it up to my nose.

Taste

Despite having very little sense of smell, taste is still working pretty well, but I can’t detect spiciness. I had some hot sauce and it tasted salty and sweet and just as delicious as it should, but there wasn’t any “heat” to the spice.

It’s hard to detect sour tastes – I had an apple from a tree nearby that should have been unbearably sour, it was pretty good.

I avoided eating too much of either the hot sauce or apples because I was pretty sure it would still hurt my stomach.
