Frances Watkins, 28 Jan

A DRIVER who caused a collision when perfoming an overtaking manoeuvre

was fined €500.

Nigel Dore, aged 31, of Cryle View Close, Abbeyfeale pleaded guilty, at

Newcastle West Court, to careless driving.

Inspector Gearoid Thompson, prosecuting, said gardai were called to

attend the scene of a road traffic collision at Knockbrack, Abbeyfeale

on August 21, 2021.

“The defendant was making an overtaking manoeuvre. He caused a

collision with another vehicle. There was a coming together. It was

compounded by another vehicle (being) driven by a tourist,” said Insp

Thompson.

The inspector said one person was placed in an ambulance as a

precaution but there were no injuries of a serious nature.

Enda O’Connor, solicitor for Mr Dore, said his client is a 31-year-old

father of two.

“It was genuine human error. The vehicle being driven by a tourist

wasn’t helpful,” said Mr O’Connor, who asked Judge Carol Anne Coolican

“to be as lenient as possible”.

“He drives for a living with an agricultural contracting business and

lives in a rural area,” said Mr O’Connor.

Having recorded a conviction, Judge Coolican fined Mr Dore €500.
