Kildare court: Child was allegedly left in a ditch as adults fled gardaí

Ciaran Mather, 28 Jan

A child was left in a ditch when the adults accompanying them fled from

gardaí.

That’s the allegation that was made by gardaí in Naas District Court on

Thursday, January 19.

The accusations relate to: Philomena Connors, 25, with an address

listed as 61 Cruise Park Drive, Tyrrelstown, Dublin 15, County Dublin;

Helen Connors, 19, with an address listed as 7 Old Knockmay Road,

Portlaoise, County Laois; and Wayne O’ Donoghue, 21, with an address

also listed as 7 Old Knockmay Road in Portlaoise.

Philomena and Helen Connors are sisters, while Wayne O' Donoghue is

Helen's partner.

It was alleged that at Cleamore Road near Kildare town, on October 10

last, gardaí approached the three defendants in a car which 'had a

strong smell of cannabis' coming from it.

Gardaí alleged that the trio fled the vehicle on foot, which would

constitute an alleged obstruction offence.

It was also alleged that stolen property was found in the car, worth

around €2,188 in total.

In addition, it was alleged that a one-year-old child that was with the

three defendants on the date in question was 'left in a ditch', and was

'left extremely upset' as a result.

Judge Desmond Zaidan adjourned the case for all three defendants to May

18 for hearing.
