Most advertising and marketing is irrelevant bullshit that only serves to encourage overconsumption and most people know it's bullshit. American stand-up comedian George Carlin, whose late routines often criticized American society, performed a comedy piece about advertising[1] which I love.
Having lived most of my life in the United States being constantly surrounded with ads on TV, billboards beside the freeway, outside every convenience store, in movie theatres, on every website, and recently on airline tickets has caused me to have a healthy hatred of advertising. It's so refreshing to hear Carlin call it out for the bullshit industry it is.
As the advertising industry is still using the same phrases, Carlin's comedy remains relevant even decades later.
