Failing At The Mill House

imagine for a moment that we have come together, sitting companionably
that you ��re doing that thing that you do  �� also imagine that I ��m familiar with it
that it sits well with me, and that I appreciate your presence
but that your primary exposure to my position is that of witness
while I mutter sweet nothings to the cheap mechanical pencil
occasionally raising it towards this page  �� as though I might at some sudden inspiration
lash out, bequeath my swill unto the stage, and in a rage of vision declare
but instead, what mostly occurs is the clear tic of a mechanical contrivance
machinefully attempting to avoid gnawing plastic in consternation
and occasionally uttering that single most common of words
as though under a desk somewhere, the tape has been changed
collusion has been sought and discarded, and all that remains
