Lazy Artist Nap

today was for installing the water wheel
so that my projects could politely grind themselves
somewhat quietly in the background
and maybe I could have a nice lie down
while the rice flour processed and the ocher

compressed to sticks, perfect for those gestures
one makes either for kings or the utterly mad

instead, the grindstone delaminated
breeding itself anew, taking down to dust
recombing into pigment  �� anything would do
my lunch, the harness for the horses
the coach outside, filed, refined, defiled

like music for painting to, but bound in disaster
royalty and madness alike strained to palate

familiar looking on, defending that all important
last resort, six feet of oiled steel, perfection
for taking to task those inadvertent replications
side-eying me, claiming maybe wrecking bar
would solve my curiosity, or at least provide restraint
