Brief Review of ZegaPain, a pretty good anime. Spoilers!

I watched the anime ZegaPain in almost one sitting.

Brief review as follows: 'Eternal life, bad' which I disagree with, however, 'Naga' is a fool. In the anime, there are 'servers' and one is unaware of the 'fakeness' of their world. If they do know, they are 'Cerebrants', who also fight in the real world with mech suits know as ZegaPain. In the real world, somehow the Cerebrants can die, but real real. The server world, depending on the overseer of this world, in this case the Student Council or more formally known as... I forgot. The commander and friends decide how the death of a Cerebrant affect the server world. Car accidents, moving away, ... always 'busy'. The entire server is prone to be awakened, so calling it a 'nest' is somewhat appropriate.

The way the server world works is a little depressing. The server box can only really last about 150 days-ish. Then it needs to get reset otherwise 'bad stuff' will happen. Naturally, Cerebrants will remain unaffected by the reset. What this means though is that the Cerebrants need to react/replay everything. I was quite curious about the process in which one awakens or notices their world is 'off' and how they reacted in such a scenario. More specifically, how they would behave differently. I assume the Cerebrants actions directly affect awaking status of others. In the anime there was a specific line that went something like this... you can measure another's memories, strength, intelligence but you cannot measure another's consciousness. Only _they_ are aware of their own consciousness.

Also, in this anime, souls can affect, or perhaps inhabit, each person in the server world. The 'data' that each person has seems to have 'soul.' The AI helpers also seemed to have soul as well, although I'd feel comfortable in saying it is emulated soul. When one of the helpers were 'killed' they were restarted and had no personality, that is to say, no emulated 'soul'. No memories of their past either so, when they didn't do the 'quirky' thing they used to, even the other AI helpers were ... It was like the old them actually did die, even if the new one, with the same face, same voice, did interact with their world. Also, they get 'hacked' and become tools of the bad guy.

On memories, 'soul', and the server box: the 'soul' seems to recall things that their virtual 'flesh' could not. I will not dwell on this topic for long, but will mention something about the main character. Apparently, he has woken up before but he got fucked up. He was 'rebuilt' with whatever data they had and generated the rest. He had a different personality and a different way of being. In this case; his old memories and his old personality no longer exists, to everyone else that knew him, he was a different person. But then he managed to get his physical body back... and he seemed to become who he was before. This raises a question for me: even if he had a different 'past' or different personality, wouldn't his soul have made him go back to who he was before in the virtual world, if having a soul would make his physical body /immediately/ recall all his old memories and make his old personality the dominate personality? He wasn't suffering from split personalities.

Sin and Abyss... A clear sign Naga is a fool. Naga was apparently able to mind read too, how did he appear as that teacher guy? He offered to rebuild them as 'Reconstructions' the evolved humans. But that was so obviously a bad deal because Naga has 'evil' inside him. Given that ... Naga is honestly a fool. I will save my fingers some typing.

At times, this anime felt like "I'm 14 and this is deep" but I still liked it.
