I've been a bit distracted with life over the course of the year, and haven't paid much attention to Gemini, neither have I done much programming. However, I decided to open up my Gemini browser the other day, and I noticed that this server is still up and running without a hitch. That's a point for the Germinal server written in Common Lisp. I had a Friendica server running for some time, but couldn't keep it going reliably for more than a week or two: It always needed some sort of attention. I gave up on Friendica and (ideally not permanently) the Fediverse, simply because I don't have the interest in constant server administrator duties. I know I could get an account on somebody else's server, but whatever.
I'm also trying to jump back into a little hobby programming, mostly just for personal enrichment. I hope to ultimately put together some video games for older systems, which means I'm jumping into C and assembler (x86, 6502, and Z80, since I have older computers with each of those processors) rather than Common Lisp. I'm also trying to jump on the C++ bandwagon just to learn it as thoroughly as anyone learns C++; I haven't touched it since a college C++ course more than twenty years ago. Perhaps it can be used to put together some simple game or demo on more modern computers. That would be a good excuse for finally learning OpenGL or Vulkan. First, though, I'll probably try something simpler. Maybe another Gemini client. Learning the language is enough of a challenge, as I've noticed over the last couple of days. It probably rivals, if not outdoes, Common Lisp in size and complexity.
Anyway, enough rambling for now. Let's see if I can still log into the server to upload this blog post. I wonder if I can remember the password... or did I set up SSH keys for that?
