What?
- LibrECM is an idea that's been fermenting in my mind for a couple of months now.
- ECM stands for Enterprise Content Management. "Libre" on the other hand is Latin, and one of the two meanings carried by the English word "free".
- "Free" can also mean "gratis", which is to say "no monetary cost" while "libre" stands for "unrestricted".
- As Stallman put it:
Think free as in free speech, not free beer.¹
- While I do plan to commercialize this idea, it's important to me personally to take a moment to focus on this "libre" part.
- To be able to both achieve commercial success and to open-source as much as possible is a virtuous but extremely challenging goal for a project to have.
- For now, I focus on the former while reminding myself daily about the latter. In case I fail commercially, at least I can fall back to the FOSS part and not think of all the work to have been in vain.
Notes
- These need to be organized at some point. For now they mostly serve as reminders for myself.
