It has been a while since I listented to Ben's Gemini Radio episodes and today I decided to listen to his latest recording:

It was interesting to hear about the Internet experience in the country of Tajikistan where unlimited high speed data is not something that can be taken for granted. I was happy to hear that Ben was able to get a better deal by being persistant. I had not heard of Internet data being charged based on the time of usage. My parents many years ago tried to save money by switching to an electric plan that charged a higher rate overall but was much cheaper at night. This resulted in them putting timers on appliances so that they would only run during certain hours.
Many years ago, I moved into an apartment but was only able to get dial-up internet service. Being used to higher speed connections, this was painful browsing. At the time, I thought it would be really cool if I could setup a list of sites I frequently visited and then at night have a script run through the list, downloading content to a local drive. Then during the day, when I was up, I could browse the local content without having to wait on the dial up bandwidth.
Recently, I have started using offpunk as my gemini browser of choice because it can not only view gemini content but also goher, finger, rss and http content. I can subscribe to any of the above types of content and then browse or tour through just what has been updated.

The author, ploum, has mentioned his desire to be connected less frequently and likes to use offpunk to sync the local data and then browse through the collected information while offline.

To me it seems that offpunk would be a perfect match for usage in Tajikistan where daytime bandwidth is at a premium. Run an offpunk sync during the evening to update the local cache then during the day, run offpunk in "offline" mode to view all of the content.
Again, thank you Ben for recording. It was interesting and informative. Oh, and my opinion is that it was not too long.
