My capsule has a new home! gemini://tilde.team/~smokey/ It underwent a decent sized re-structuring to simplify the directory tree and cut out the fat of unused files. A new "Personal Ramblings" section has been added. It houses some of my less-structured and more out-there ponderings about philosophical subjects, the nature of reality, and the limits of human truth. All that good hippy shit. All of the articles in there are a work in progress. A new "Unfinished Articles" section now houses some half-baked writings that were sitting on my hard drive for a very long time

I was browsing Gopher for a few days, and I don't understand people who say that Gemini is useless as Gopher exists. Don't get me wrong, Gopher is cool in its own way, but it's quite difficult to browse it, mainly because of the lack of true hyperlinks and absence of textual adaptation to the screen. I don't think I could stay on Gopher as much as I stay on Gemini.

@eph I was just reading up on the Eastern Orthodox hours and would like some clarification. Is the First Hour prayer at Sunrise, or at a (variable/sundial?) hour after Sunrise? I looked at one wiki, and it says the first hour was at 6:00am, but the 3rd hour at 9:00am, which I assume is a mistake (since there's 3 hours in between 6 and 9, and 6:00 is usually deemed sunrise in sundial time, and would be the zeroeth hour technically). A different wiki says the first hour is at 7:00am (sundial time). I assume the second one is correct?

I have been making a new graphical calendar program for a while now. It's not done yet, but I'm making progress. It's a custom GUI made with SDL for rendering, so it's quite responsive, and has decent animations. It can calculate a form of Sundial Time, which is used so that it can calculate Jewish Prayer times. Islamic prayer times are more complicated to calculate, so that's not done yet. It can also handle 4 different calendars atm: Gregorian, Julian, Jewish Calendar, and Islamic Kuwait Algorithm (this usually has a setting to tweak when months start as well, but that's not finished yet). It can calculate most Jewish holidays, and some Christian Eastern Orthodox holidays. [1/2]

Gemini isn't hard to access; hell, I'm posting from a smartphone right now, but even the smallest barrier (caring) keeps this space pleasant and interesting (if sometimes a bit quiet). Sometimes gatekeeping is good, it turns out.

@skyjake : I've found something that, in my opinion is a bug in Lagrange. I sometimes use Ibus's table input system to write certain unicode characters (specifically the UCSUR toki pona characters). For some reason, in the submission box, this system doesn't seem to work. Given that it even works in things like xterm, I'm a bit curious about why this isn't working. Is it because oof the custom widgets, perhaps? The workaround I've found is to write the text I want to in something else, and paste it in. A bit annoying, but given how rarely I'd be writing this in the submission box, it is workable.
