Python does have its downsides, like slow performance. The whitespace-based indentation can be an acquired taste for some, if they're particular about spaces vs. tabs.
No programming language is good for all purposes, but IMO with Python it's not too difficult to get a handle on the basic concepts. This lets you do powerful scripting and even small apps. If one is then still interested in learning more, you can choose to go closer to the metal (e.g., C) or get more performance and type-safety (C#, Java, Kotlin). At this point the choices depend on the OS/environment as well. ยท 2 months ago
Python hated in the Linux community? You sure? ยท 2 months ago
@skyjake @moddedbear @gnuserland @comatoast @digbat @astroseneca @kocka_collector Thanks for the suggestion. I was a bit skeptical about python because it was hated in some communities (ahhm-linux-ahhum) but javascript is too hated a lot. I wonder why that is the case for these languages. Seeing this much of positivity for 'python' has encouraged me to try to learn it "again". Thanks you guys! ยท 2 months ago
[3] I would personally recommend C or some other low level language, as even though they are more complicated to use than python, they teach a lot more about the internal workings of a computer. Javascript is easy, but has more bugs than features. Of course, if you want to get to a point of maximum hireabiility with a minimum effort, go for it. If you want to actually learn something useful, go for something more serious, like C, C++, python, java, or the like. ยท 2 months ago
I suggest learning English first. Then... I guess caressing Julia is better than jerking off a python. Sorry for the high pitch. ยท 2 months ago
[3] python as a first language ยท 2 months ago
[3] Python is great all-around as a first language, though there are also good arguments for javascript and typescript if you're specifically wanting to build something on the web. If you're learning python, you'll likely be able to write something useful a lot sooner for the reasons @skyjake listed. ยท 2 months ago
[3] Python. More concise, better designed, less weirdness, great standard library. ยท 2 months ago
[3] Python.
Typescript is a superset of Javascript hence would make more sense learning before the latter! ยท 2 months ago
[3] I recommend python or go. ยท 2 months ago
