So today my dad was in town to hunt with some of his old buddies. He stopped to have lunch with me on the way. We talked about how I'm doing in school, and how the dogs are doing back home, and different majors I could pursue, etc etc. He was in a bit of a rush though, and we left within maybe 20 minutes. It feels like that every time I'm on the phone with him too. I want to talk forever and ever, extract his knowledge, find out more about him and what he's done and what he thinks. But he's always even in a bit of a rush, even if he doesn't say it. One day, he'll retire though, and I'll get to have *that* conversation that doesn't end until it's exhausted. One day.
My mother has recently been mourning our inability to have exhaustive conversations; it's always a video call when she's tired or when I'm busy or always something or other.
You have a great relationship with your dad. Cherish that!
In my experience, when your dad gets old, he never shuts up :p
