Piracy is not a victimless crime? OK.

Spring 2018

Late in the year before, I had gotten into deep emotional turmoil in the place where my addictions and immaturity overlapped with the web. I was in the thick of reassesing my relationship to high technology, while starting to re-evaluate my morals as a whole.

The thing I was most pressed about leaving behind was -music-. I was a late night FM kid who graduated into cassettes, then importing expensive CDs of video game music. When my first Gateway showed up in the late 90s, I was ripping, downloading, and hoarding MP3s. Then ripping to FLAC. Then AAC. Then OGG. Then back to FLAC...then MP3s again.

By gradschool, I needed cash and sold my media. I finally got a cellphone and shortly thereafter, start using Spotify full time--the better part of a decade.

But here I was, shaken, re-evaluating and (if I'm honest) a little fed up with footing the bill for a family plan.
