Definitely a crappy situation with OVH. Apparently they were storing backups in the same location as the servers. My employer's public website (not a small company, though not international) was hosted there. Good thing we've had backups copied elsewhere and were able to quickly spin up a replacement on AWS.

Is/was your government blocking other popular sites as well?

It is technically very difficult to block any services, but the idea is clearly developing in this direction. The Internet has become a political technology. I think this is one of the reasons why we is here.
