Extremely Low Effort Microwave Potatoes
Definitely not the best way to bring about the refined aromas of potato, but if you’re in a bad day and you have a microwave, it will fill your belly. Potatoes are very nutritious; you can’t thrive on just potatoes, but if you eat nothing but potatoes for a few days, you’ll be fine.
1. Rinse big potato in sink.
2. Dig out any weird black spots in big potato.
3. Stick big potato with fork several times.
4. Microwave big potato for 7 to 9 minutes. Stick it with fork to check if it’s soft. Err on the side of more cooking.
5. Cut big potato in half.
6. Spread margerine, vegan cream or any other things that have some taste you like.
7. It will take a long time to cool down. You can eat faster by cutting out a small piece at a time.
My potatoes are super old can I still eat them
Rotten potatoes are very dangerous, but also they’re very obviously rotten and disgusting. If you’re in doubt, they’re edible. The sprouts add some bitter to it but it’s still healthy nutritious food, you can dig around them and eat the rest.
Adding some effort
If you start feeling like you can do things:
- The Potato Bag: If you wrap them well in a couple layers of cotton cloth, the steam stays in, and the potatoes get less wrinkly-deflated (but you have to wash the cloth later). There are commercial ‘microwave potato bags’ for this; they’re just a thick cotton bag. Don’t use synthetic cloths as they may melt or smoke.
- Fried is Tasty: Spread a bit of oil on a skillet, cut your microwaved potato in half, salt it, and toss it on the hot oil to get some browning.
- Dice It for More Seasoning: Cut your microwaved potato in small chunks and toss them about with salt, oil and spices, either in a bowl to eat directly, or a hot skillet to get crunchy. To get an idea of which spices to use check out:

- Fake Roast: Pierce the raw potatoes as usual, then toss them in olive oil, salt (coarse if you have it), a sprinkle of sugar, and any seasonings you like (e.g. black pepper and a herb, I favour rosemary). Put then in the microwave in a container with a tight covering, with as little extra room as you can (some people use plastic wrap, but you could for example sandwitch between two plates). Don’t close an airtight container, the steam needs _some_ way out. Goes great with sour cream or pickles.
