PSP: The Ultimate Apacalypse Device

Recently, after my very cheap PSP 2000 didn't work when I got it, I purchased an original, fat PSP 1000 Japan Model. I have not been able to put it down. I got some games with it: Fate/Extra, Some other Fate cooking game, and Hatsune Miku: Project Diva. This console is essentially a PlayStation 3 in your pocket, it really was ahead of its time, it still feels like a modern console you could pick up at your local Walmart today. While the graphics are obviously dated, it is essentially like having a Portable PS3 which can play PS2 games on it. The Cross Media Bar (XMB) homescreen is the same, meaning it can be loaded with hours of movies, music, and game backups, as you will not be able to purchase digital from the PSN store outside of a US region console. I like to back up my UMD's to the consoles 32GB memory card to preserve the Disc drive and keep it from going out, should the actual apocalypse happen.

I call this thing the ultimate apocalypse device because of an experience I had with it on only the first day I got it. A storm came on Saturday whilst I was home alone, leaving me without internet for a good while. I was not bored at all however, as my PSP was full of games, music, and videos that I loaded on to it just hours earlier when it arrived. A while later, the power temporarily went out, in which I used the PSP to watch a bunch of old Hatsune Miku music videos I had put on it, as well as more Fate/Extra gameplay. In preparation of being without power or internet, you could buy a USB 5V PSP charger, connect it to a Solar Powered 10000mAh portable charger, and be absolutely golden, should your PSP be absolutely loaded with content, and games via CFW, if you're into that.

Overall, I am in love. I am absolutely jealous that I could not afford one back in the 2000s, though I am also grateful as I was an irresponsible slob who treated my electronics like garbage which left me with many lost games and one broken console. The PSP, while technically outdated, feels perfectly modern alongside my almost unused PS4. I suppose if you have an r4 card, a DS could be the same, since there are a few homebrew apps which can play back 144p video, but the power would obviously be a bit more limited there.
