Loosely... doom metal? grunge? somewhere in between?
Whatever it is: this album is THICK. Deep/crunchy/riffy bass shakes through the whole thing at a dirgelike pace. The guitars layer on and play mostly the same thing as the bass... this creates this just fat as hell sound. On top of all of it is surprisingly catchy and strong vocals. Not the growl often associated with modern metal, but a nice firm vocal that holds its own with the thick bass and guitar mentioned previously - did I mention just how dense this sound is? Half of the tracks almost feel like some kind of chant or siren song. Really hypnotic and dronelike. I tend to listen to this late at night through headphones turned up really loud.
To be honest I tend to skip over the two acoustic-ish tracks... it isn't that they aren't good. The rest just cranks so much and I get so drawn into it that I am usually not ready for the reprieve the these tracks offer.
I've been listening to this album since around the start of the 2020 covid-19 pandemic and it has not gotten old. I have listened to their other albums a bit, but none are as captivating to me as this one. If you feel like you aren't a fan of this sort of music I still recommend giving the tracks I list below a try. A few co-workers that are not into metal AT ALL really liked this when I posted it in our "Currently Listening" slack channel.
