I've been using VScode for a couple of years now, and have overall been very pleased. Version control integration is superb, and it has always been very lightweight yet featureful.
Performance has degraded of late though, and I can't help shake the feeling that investing time in a commercial, MS product is a great idea. Maybe one day a nice little subscription appears to be able to use it? WHo knows...
One thing I'm sure of is that wont happen with emacs or vim. They will always work, they will not disappear. They are good things to invest time in to professionally (and personally!).
I've installed the spacemacs configurations over the top of emacs. One thing I'm definitely not going to do is crunch up my hands with those emacs keyboard shortcuts...
All is going well so far, and I'm embracing the "use emacs for everything" mindset. I'm using eww to quickly browse the web, and will set up mu4e email today. I'm also writing this gem file in emacs using gemini-mode :)
