Winding down working on Second-Hand Dresses

Up a Level

Well, it's Sunday and time to switch gears on writing projects. I found it easier to treat my overwhelming number of projects as iterations like software development. Work from Monday to Sunday, then decide the next project (which may be the same one). Unfortunately I have some obligations that need to be completed by the end of the month so I have to stop writing Second-Hand Dresses[1].

Over the last few weeks, I've been working on Second-Hand Dresses. Mostly going through, rewriting the first fourteen chapters before extending it to seventeen. Thanks to a friend, the plot that I originally started wasn't quite right, so the rework has been to lay down a new path.

I opened chapters five through fourteen for the $1/month subscribers on my Patreon[2]. Chapters fifteen through seventeen are for the $4/month ones, mainly because I'm not comfortable with the plot. I might still change any chapter going forward, I'm less likely to touch the first dozen at this point.

I really like this story but I'm also worried that I won't be able to pull it off. My obsessive tendencies means I want to keep working on it, rewriting and pushing forward until the end.

But, I can't. Due to various reasons, I'm working on commissions again (need to pay some bills). One of them is due at the end of the month so I'm going to happily obsess with that.

I did also fail my “no programming June” in my efforts to focus on writing, but that was because Amazon changes their file format and I needed to update some code to handle that. But, I haven't obsessed about programming all month.

Thought about it, but didn't actually do it.
