Hello HN! Today I bring to you Flow, a HackerNews reader created with user experience in mind.
There are many HackerNews clients out there, but there's a few things that set Flow apart
1) Scraping articles in real time - this means articles not only get displayed alongside an image, but they get a summary too!
2) Built to be more visually engaging than your run-of-the-mill HN client. Most HN clients are very plain and boring. Flow was made to look good!
3) Flow was built with User Experience in mind - everything was made to feel like... well, flowing
Looking forward to hearing your feedback!
This is a solid start to your app and congratulations for getting to a workable release.
It has a Flipboard feel to it with the cards and TFA (the featured artical) graphics. Some people like the barebones minimalism of HN as-is, but your take has a more more modern appeal.
I have used Materialistic & Hack which each have their tradeoffs. Your cards fit only 3 or 4 articals on screen , but they are nicely styled. The big win is a simple press to read TFA text feature from your scrape. It seems to work in 60%ish of cases and is totally useful - I found myself reading the article more frequently and in advance of checking comments.
I would like to see the comment count in addition to the vote score per article.
In the comments view the layout is well thought out - spacing works and the tight vertical grandparent/parent/sibling lines are nice to see. Searching in the comments would be nice.
I hope you take this forward and allow signon for upvoting etc but this is a nice looking addition to the Android reader community so great start and thanks for sharing !
Thank you for the kind words and feedback! I'm working on a new release that adds a few other suggestions - i'll use the opportunity to include some of the features you suggested as well
