I know this is disappointing, but I'm glad they open sourced the packages (see:

https://github.com/quantopian

) I could see it having been worse, e.g., where the entire ecosystem disappeared.

Perhaps there is an opportunity for another player to mix and match the open source packages into an alternative community. However, if Quantopian is shutting this down, it is probably because the economics doesnt make sense (perhaps accounts dont convert well?)

Anyone know what happened?

Edit: Lectures seem to be gone too!

Not exactly sure what happened, but I don't think their models were doing well — they had to return investor money earlier this year (

)

I still think the economics works — QuantConnect seems to be doing really well — they've been running cash competitions lately. They have even more data which along with backtesting is free, and it also supports live trading for a monthly fee.

If someone from Quantopian sees this, could you upload your lectures to the Internet Archive? Or put them back up for a day so someone else can?

Hi, the lecture notebooks are in our research_public repo, at

https://github.com/quantopian/research_public/tree/master/no...

Hopefully that helps! We'll be keeping these OSS projects online.

(I work at Quantopian)

Community is shutting down. Does it mean the entire company is closing? What other businesses or clients do they have?

I imagine this continues:
