Other New Desk Accessories by Nathan Mates (v1.2)

Note: These programs are pretty old, mostly hacks. They're only being
released because someone asked for one of them. As I say below, I'd
love to see some interest in them so I have a reason to work on them
once again, and spend time updating things.

Version 1.2 adds resource forks to all of the files, and changes the
distribution policies, etc.

L.E.D.Message (NDA)

This program lets you type in a message, and then scroll it
across the screen. The message can be up to 120 characters long, but
is currently entered in 3 smaller lines. [Yes, I now know how to do
bigger text entry blocks, but I've never really had any requests or
interest in combining it here.] The Twilight II version of this is
FAR more powerful and useful; also by me, curious enough. :)

Fun House (NDA)

Fun House is another program inspired by a Mac DA. There are
two versions: a "by the book" version, and a fast, Tool-Free (in the
display code) version. Just open it up and see what it does by moving
the mouse around. Click the mouse to get rid of it.

Mouse.Mileage (NDA)

This program has no real useful, moral, intellectual, or other
value, and slows your computer down a bit. So why even bother with
it? Because it's interesting to see how far your mouse has travelled
today. Mouse.Mileage (idea from Sean Nolan's Mouse Odometer for the
Macintosh; all coding for the IIGS entirely my own) keeps track of
how far the mouse has moved since its window was first opened up. The
window must be opened up once to initialize Mouse.Mileage, then the
program runs in the background, even between programs, until you turn
the computer off. For your information, .00001 mile is 1.61 cm or
.6336 inches.

I may work on a CDev version that installs automatically and
keeps track of the system mileage, but only if there is enough
interest in it...

Shredder (NDA)

Are you so angry at some program or something else that you'd
rather just rip everything up than go on? Shredder provides a fix.
Either select it from the NDA menu or hit control-shift-6. There will
be some clicking from the speaker as the GS is working, then the
front window will be sliced in half. There is no way to undo this,
so you'll just half to close the window. Yeah, so this is mostly just
a load of fluff, but it's another fine macintrash program that I sat
down and cloned one day...

Sound File Fixer (NDA)

When you are trying to run downloaded sounds, especially those
from other computers, (in particular some sounds grabbed off Macs),
they may refuse to run. If this happens, try Sound File Fixer on
them. This problem is caused by 0 bytes sprinkled in the file, which
stops the playing early. Sound File Fixer takes a sound file, and
replaces all zero bytes with neutral $7F bytes, and places a long (4
bytes) zero at the end of the file. Sound File Fixer will ask you if
you want to modify a file not of the usual sound types: $06 (BIN) or
$D8 (SND?). If you are not absolutely sure that the file you selected
is a sound file, select cancel or hit return, as all of the
modifications are permanent. You have been warned! Most modern sound
programs (AudioZap 2.0 (registered version.... You lamers who never
pay for shareware know who you are) and others) have this capability
built-in anyhow.

Legal Stuff:
This program is distribution-restricted freeware. It is NOT public
domain; it IS copyrighted (c) by me, Nathan Mates, all rights reserved.
This program will be uploaded first to Delphi.com, the best place for
flame-free beneficial Apple II support. [Free www-only accounts are
available; drop by http://www.delphi.com]. After a period of roughly
a week (or more, if the flaming jerks on csa2 are being annoying),
it'll then be uploaded by myself to the more unsavory parts of the
internet. Do not upload it in the meantime; this delay is to encourage
folks to vote with their feet and move away from the jerks.

Further, this program may NOT be archived, distributed, referenced
by name or by link, or otherwise mentioned on any web, ftp or the like
site of the pirate, drug-addled village idiot, Charles Turley. This is
due to his continual idiotic bad behavior online, in hurting honest
developers via piracy and behavior that should have landed him in
a mental institution a LONG time ago. Please stay away from this
con artist (calling him the male of the species homo sapiens is
more than he deserves), and if you want to reclaim the Apple II
areas of the internet from this pathological developer-hater, please
help make it plain to see that his abusive behavior is not to be
tolerated in public. Charles Turley's main con artist reputation comes
from his mistaken 'belief' that if he can get his hands on it, it
can be copied freely, and should be available to all. Thus, he'll
copy copyrighted (i.e. piracy) programs, documentation, FAQs, etc
without a single shred of remorse if that makes someone else feel
he's "nice". There is no honor among thieves, and Turkey will backbite
you if you once call him on his blatant misbehaviors.

Other Apple II groups that actually CARE about copyrights, such as
Joe Kohn's Shareware Solutions II, Juiced.GS may distribute this
program so long as no more than $5 per disk is charged. [Other Apple II
groups, please email me first for permission at nathan@visi.com]
In any case, this program must be distributed with all the files as
my original upload, with zero editing allowed.

Disclaimer:

I warrant this software for nothing, you got it for free. If
good bug reports are provided, I might be inclined to fix it, but
don't count on anything.

Apple II Infinitum!!!
