The RP2350 is a low cost Dual Core micro controller which nominally runs at 150Mhz. What makes it unique compared to other micro controllers, including the older RP2040, is the dual cores can switch to using a RISC-V 32bit instruction set, the Hazard3 CPU. This instruction set is easy to learn and can fit on 2 pages. Additionally the RP2350 like most other micro controllers contains a multitude of hardware I/O including: UART, SPI, I2C, PWM, ADC, USB controller and custom PIO
A retro gaming system would need the CPU, a display or video output, audio output, storage and game controller or controller ports.
Generally something that would be able to display 640x480 at 60Hz. A VGA or DVI-D monitor typically can be found at thrift stores for about $5 - $10 I already have a few of these.
A game controller which has can easily be connected to the board is preferable over one that is on the board since buttons can wear out and take abuse. SNES or Playstation 2 are inexpensive (on ebay 2 < $20). USB compatible ones might be an option but would require more overhead.
An SD Card reader to would be nice to hold games and easily swap out and update.
