you're right, 80, 90+ percent of people are (probably, I don't know) still using huge social media platforms, but the increase in Neocities, personal sites, self-hosted and independent "spots" online are enormous compared to 2017, and certainly 2010. 2018 saw the biggest "jump", and then COVID another increase, and in 2022 (for whatever reason) a fuckton of blogs came online.
people can (and in some cases, likely are) able to do both, though many have jumped shipped to no social media. Which is good.

I do think you're right, for the record. It has definitely increased dramatically. I would ask further, though: how many of these blogs and sites are live, and how many are long-abandoned? I know in Geminispace I stumble across dead blogs and broken rings with some frequency.
