< So You Want to Get Into Philosophy

~plato

You made some really good points. However, not all philosophers are 'stuck up' - although quite a few are. I did a degree and Ph.D in philosophy and ended up as an academic. I come from a very working class background and found the very middle class nature of academic philosophy sometimes hard to deal with.

My main point of interest, however, is whether or not you find philosophy useful in your day to day life?

As a sidenote, I'm an old styley analytic philosophy with interest in modern continental philosophy. If I had to choose a favourite philosopher it would be Wittgenstein, and a favourite book, his *Tractatus*.

I decided I wanted to study it because it's the least useful thing I could think of unless you get far enough along to teach. I wanted to become more familiar with the vocabulary that is used to browbeat normal people into submission.
