Today I lost count of how many rocks I dug out. I got the biggest one so far, it took me a good while and no small effort to take it out of the hole I've been digging. I am almost done with that job. Soon, I'll be able to move on to more interesting matters. Not that digging a hole isn't interesting, but it's going to be filled again and covered, so...
Here's an unpopular opinion: this is what a man should be doing: digging holes, moving rocks, carrying logs, cutting them and splitting them, hacking the weeds, mixing cement, building and tearing down. No wonder there are so many feminine men wanting to become women, in a society that keeps us in front of desks working on pretty designs. Sure, this sounds like a very macho stance, sue me, it's true. The male body needs this activity, otherwise we get depressed. Ask a male. That's why people in cities *pay* money to go to the gym, where they can waste their effort lifting heavy weights only to put them back down where they were.
I got out all these rocks, and now I'm going to roll them around and find them a good spot. I also dug out a good deal of soil, which I'm going to use to make nice mounds for planting... idk, stuff. Or for outlining little dams for the water to stay a while in temporary ponds. I am kind of going to miss digging rocks out of the ground, the whole process of finding a way to rip them from the grip of the earth, and then to find a way to take them to the surface.
I'm glad I have rocks, I am especially glad to have big rocks. They are the best building and landscaping material. I feel like a caveman, making contours all over the place with rocks, and now with soil, too.
It's also a nice distraction from the computer. I'm so tired of looking at screens all the time. I get the itch to move, to do something useful! I spoke of digital gardening earlier today, but true, actual gardening, that's a whole lot better. I really pity all those people who only get to work in front of a screen, sitting all day, attending meetings, and eating packaged food. I pity, above all, those who get worked up over petty arguments on twitter over whether turd sandwich or huge douche is the less awful option to be shoved down their metaphorical throats.
So, uh, how's your day been?
~bartender, a beer please!
Thanks for asking. It's been wonderful. Not as wonderful as yours, but that's mostly because I've no longer a body that can exert itself at that level. But I understand your joy and satisfaction, and congratulate you on embracing making your own world!
