Announcing another 'Classic Apple II' program to join the other Beagle Oldies
Freeware Collection

About - DISKQUIK.SDK (a ShrinkIt DOS 3.3 - 5.25 disk archive)
Uploaded by Charles T. Turley
6/2/99
Status: Copyrighted Freeware

In May of 1999, I discovered this Beagle Bros. Apple II program titled DiskQuik.
I bought the original disk only (without the manual) at a flea market sale. This
program is a bootable disk in DOS 3.3. I contacted the Pres. of Beagle Bros. to
request his premission to release, archive and upload it to our Apple II ftp
sites as a freeware in a ShrinkIt disk archive. Premission was granted on
5/24/99.

See his email reply below:

OK with me as long as you include all the original copyright and trademark
notices and include the author's name, etc.

Please let me know where you are making these available so I can check it out.

Thanks,
Mark

After requesting on the CSA2 Usenet newsgroup information on the program and or
a manual, I have also (just this week) obtained by mail from an anonymous
sender, the original manual and package the disk was bundled in and will provide
this at a later date (when my time allows me to) either as an OCR scan to text
file and/or 256 color GIF's.

Until I'm able to make that available, here's a brief outline of what the
program does from our CSA2 FAQ's author - Rubywand.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DiskQuik seems to be a way to set up the Slot 3 RAM disk for use with DOS
3.3 files. (It requires at least a 128k IIe.) The Slot 3 RAM disk you get has
238 free Sectors.

Evidently, the usual way to use DQ is to boot a diskette and run a custom
program which moves files from the diskette to your Slot 3 RAM disk. The
diskette must include certain files from the DQ master diskette. An example
program for moving Beagle utility files (named "LOAD BEAGLE UTILITIES") is
included. The program includes REMs which help clarify what's going on.

Here's some more information on the program taken from the DiskQuik manual
cover;

UNLOCKED and UNPROTECTED
Requires
Apple IIe
with Extended
80-Column Card

Beagle Bros - Micro Software Inc.

DiskQuik
DISK DRIVE EMULATOR
by HARRY BRUCE and GENE HITE

AN IN-MEMORY "DISK DRIVE"

DiskQuik acts like a disk drive connected to Slot 3, but it is much faster,
quieter and more reliable. Enjoy the benefits of a 2nd (or 3rd or 4th...) disk
drive at less than 1/10 the price.

The Apple IIe's Extended 80-Column Card (required) holds about half as much data
as a 5.25" floppy disk.

USES NORMAL COMMANDS

All normal Applesoft and DOS commands are in effect once DiskQuik is loaded in
your Apple IIe. For Example, "CATALOG,S3" catalogs files in RAM Slot 3.
"CATALOG,S6" displays your normal disk catalog. Transfer files between RAM and
your normal Apple floppy disk with ease.

SILENT AND FAST Since no moving parts are involved, DiskQuik operates silently
and at super-high speeds. See it to believe it.

READY WHEN YOU ARE

DiskQuik has many uses. For example, load often-used files like FID into memory
when you boot, so they are always available when you need them. Access these
files just as you would from disk ("BRUN FID,S3" for example). Swap files from
RAM onto disk and vice versa, just as if a disk drive were connected to Slot #3.

FRIENDLY AND COMPATIBLE: DiskQuik is compatible with Apple IIe 80-Column
display, ProntoDOS, GPLE, Double-Take and all normal Applesoft and DOS commands
and procedures. DiskQuik will not interfere with IIe "Double Hi-Res" Graphics.

I'd like to thank Mark (MarkSi@aol.com) for allowing the reclassification of
The Beagle Bros. program and disk titled: DiskQuik as freeware.

Cheers,
Tom
