I guess a starting point to have safety in your local community is to have a local community. People who know each other, and accept each other despite their differences. If I see someone being attacked in the street, I'm a lot more likely to intervene if it's someone I know. So starting point is community building. The hard thing is to get everyone to accept their view point is not paramount - you'll have the lefty activist and the evangelical Christian (amongst others) trying to co-opt communities to their viewpoints. Get people to value the community over their individual rightfulness.

@HanzBrix yeah, a shortwave radio would be very useful. I do want to get a ham radio license one day but I'm a bit worried about how registering for one basically doxes myself.

Practice and safety are essential for firearms, yeah. One of the reasons I'm waiting a bit to actually get a gun is that I want to have enough funds to regularly practice with it (ammo, maitenance, etc). For self-defense I think 9mm is probably my best option, plus I can get a cheap used 9mm gun for like $200-300 that will last me a long time. I do want to get some .22LR stuff (like a 10/22 and mark 4), but that's for *after* i get what i need for self defence.

Due to recent events in a certain country... What's the best way to create safety networks within your local community? ....Completely unrelated question, how do you actually get your living space to be tidy and keep it that way? ;w;
