I want to try XMPP again. Last time I tried it I couldn't get a server working on my VPS. Hopefully I can figure it out next time

so you want to try to use your own server? because you don't need to.
i think prosody is easy enough to configure and it works very fast. but one of my friends says ejabberd is much simpler.
ejabberd support MUC is at ejabberd@conference.process-one.net
XMPP user support is at support@joinjabber.org
XMPP server operator support is at servers@joinjabber.org
XMPP operators are found at operators@muc.xmpp.org
