Due to recent events in a certain country... What's the best way to create safety networks within your local community?
....Completely unrelated question, how do you actually get your living space to be tidy and keep it that way? ;w;

I'm not entirely sure what you mean but long ago I had this idea of a watchdog timer for people. A simple application where you have to check in every so often or it rings alarms for your friends. Obviously you configure the period of time, the list of your friends, and how to contact them Etc. There has to be something like that!
As for your second question please let me know if you figure it out.

Always put things back in their right place ! If I ever make the mistake of leaving a mug or a jumper in the wrong place, it stays there for months.... So the only way around that is to always put things back where they belong right away.

Speaking generally in terms of safety, the best thing you can ever do is to build ties of familiarity and support with the people who live around you. This isn't always easy, but building community ties increases not just your own safety but the safety of everyone else around you.
It also helps if these ties are meaningful ones, i.e. not just superficial acquaintances but profound ones based on acknowledging our shared human reality. This has been easy for my wife and I lately as we've started hosting a junior youth empowerment group for our son and some of his best friends. Lots of meaningful conversations about what kind of people we hope our kids will be in the future.

@HanzBrix I do think I want to invest in meshtastic a little bit, and yeah a gun is something i want to get at least by the end of the year.
If you do get a gun, please spend a lot of time practicing, for yours and other people's safety! Just having a gun is a good way to get hurt. As I always say, when there is a gun nearby, your chances of getting shot go up significantly.

Stack is right. If you get a gun practice with it. Shooting can be loads of fun and it is a worthwhile skill to have. But buying a gun and thinking you know how to shoot is like buying boxing gloves and thinking you can box. You need to train often and consistently.
Are you concerned about civil unrest/economic collapse ? Or being targeted by thugs?

I guess a starting point to have safety in your local community is to have a local community. People who know each other, and accept each other despite their differences. If I see someone being attacked in the street, I'm a lot more likely to intervene if it's someone I know. So starting point is community building. The hard thing is to get everyone to accept their view point is not paramount - you'll have the lefty activist and the evangelical Christian (amongst others) trying to co-opt communities to their viewpoints. Get people to value the community over their individual rightfulness.

@HanzBrix yeah, a shortwave radio would be very useful. I do want to get a ham radio license one day but I'm a bit worried about how registering for one basically doxes myself.
Practice and safety are essential for firearms, yeah. One of the reasons I'm waiting a bit to actually get a gun is that I want to have enough funds to regularly practice with it (ammo, maitenance, etc). For self-defense I think 9mm is probably my best option, plus I can get a cheap used 9mm gun for like $200-300 that will last me a long time. I do want to get some .22LR stuff (like a 10/22 and mark 4), but that's for *after* i get what i need for self defence.
