I disagree on the use of SimpleX because it seems to be entirely owned by a venture backed company, which means they're bound to sell out, to do anything it takes to turn a profit and not go insolvent. Briar is a solid alternative, although it doesn't quite live up to my expectations of a chat platform and its specs are confusing and outdated, so I'm exploring building an alternative...
In the meantime, XMPP is still here, and it works quite well.

I disagree, they did point out that VC's are controversial, but in the current financial system, those are the ones willing to provide enough money to a project where average Joe's don't even bother. Many open-source projects have lower quality because they don't get enough funding.
Briar is a nice option, I have used it. Not that intuitive though. What sets SimpleX apart is its new approach on anonimity and with that the solution to online stalkers/scammers. But in the end, my goal is that projects offer contact options without needing a Twitter or mastodon account registered. NOSTR or Briar can equally fullfill this role.
For organisations, I believe SimpleX is the most streamlined to use.

But still we need to be wary. And seek other sources of funding. From other FOSS projects maybe. Join the simpleX chat group if you want :)
