Re: "Why do people not like gemini anymore?"
@decant_ This is so heartening to read!

Maybe a fresh new wave of pleasant, scripted and well produced, video tutorials might renew the general public's interest.
There's been a tiny first wave of videos, focusing on how small the smoll internet is...
It seems to me that focusing on how mentally "nutritious" Gemini is, would make for a nice overarching theme for a second wave of videos. Especially now that people are noticing the dramatic fall in quality of the publications on the traditional web.
I'd like to make one, but I'm not sure I'd be good at it.
Gemini is exceptionally good at keeping away those people who can't appreciate it!
They don't belong here. Why would you entice them?
@stack: Hey...
Well, because some people might benefit from knowing about Gemini, who would do just fine here, but who could only first hear about it on a mainstream platform, as a video presentation...
@Nono, I have faith that those who will enjoy Gemini will get here when they are ready. Actively recruiting will more likely draw the wrong crowd, and there is really zero reasons to grow Gemini faster!
People have many different opinions and criticisms of Gemini protocol/file-format, including I have some of my own. (I also disagree with many of other people's criticism, although I agree with some of them.)
However, Gemini is still OK, and I do not think that you should stop using Gemini even though there are some problems with it. Modern WWW is much worse, anyways, though.
Even the official FAQ says: "Gemini is not intended to replace either Gopher or the web, but to co-exist peacefully alongside them as one more option which people can freely choose to use if it suits them"
(I made up my own protocol/file-format too (due to criticisms of Gemini), but it is also not intended to replace Gemini or Gopher or WWW.)
I think that Gemini does not need to be "comparable with the regular web".
In my opinion the "complexity" of Gemini is mostly the TLS; it isn't that complex otherwise.
The difficulty of installing Lagrange or other software can depend on the computer and on the operating system, since some might not be compatible, or might be more difficult to compile, etc. But, there are also services with WWW and SSH to access Gemini if you need them (software for accessing WWW and SSH are both common), and if you have ncat then you might use that to download files from Gemini too.
I can say that it is not that much more difficult to sign up for this BBS than for some other stuff; the difficulty is knowing how to make up a suitable client certificate. The documentation is slightly confusing but it is not that difficult to figure out and I have been able to do so easily enough.
There are many things called "Gemini", so a search for "Gemini protocol" will work better. That is just how it is doing since many words will have multiple meanings, anyways; a search query can be more than one word.
Why do people not like gemini anymore? — I remember a couple years ago i heard people talking about gemini like it was an escape from the bloat of the modern web, now i see people saying that gemini doesn't solve anything and isn't even comparable with the regular web
