I love a good long-distance train journey. I'm about to head back to Bangkok from Chiang Mai via overnight train. The journey is 13 hours, and this train is delightfully old school. I love it.

@melyanna True, I feel like it'll be a long time too. · 1 month ago

@martin yes, such a pity! I always wanted to go on a long train trip across Europe and Russia. Hopefully this will be possible again. (I typed "soon" but removed it as it doesn't feel realistic now to say it'll end soon unfortunately) · 2 months ago

@half_elf_monk Yeah, exactly this! The time penalty is annoying for sure, but where I can, I prefer to use them. · 2 months ago

@melyanna Exactly! I'd love to return to Europe (from Asia) by train, but with the stuff in Russia, I don't think it's possible anymore. · 2 months ago

imo trains have a bit (just a bit) of an old-world romance to them. It's not quite low-tech, but they are a lot closer to human-scale. I'd use them more if I had the time to commit to the slower pace of travel. · 2 months ago

@martin I love overnight trains. It's the best way to travel: it lets you enjoy days in full, read, and get some beauty sleep while going to your destination. · 2 months ago

@fripster Very perceptive! Yes, I returned to Bangkok on my own while Elizabeth spends 3 weeks in Krabi hanging out with her friend. We're big believers in having time apart from each other, from time to time, to make sure we don't lose who we are as individuals. Note to self: I want @fripster to proof read all my future writing! · 2 months ago

just a question @martinrue: why do you speak of “me” here, but you are part of a (very nice!) couple? Is that intentional? · 2 months ago

@johano Estas kelkaj malsamaj ĉiutage. Tiu ĉi estas Express 14. Express 10 estas unu horo malantaŭ ni. La alvena trajno antaŭ monato estis pli moderna kaj bona, tamen tiu ĉi estas malnova kaj malpli komforta. · 2 months ago
