Ensemble one more time please.

gemini://stack.tilde.cafe/ensemble/beta/game?

Please give it another try.

I completely restructured it to be simpler and more robust.

Thank you for your help. I should be able to bring this game online full-time very soon.

CGI error

๐Ÿš€ stack [OP] ยท Oct 21 at 18:19:

FIxed.

A stupid error in the instrumentation/debugging code.

Should work now.

๐Ÿš€ mbays ยท Oct 21 at 18:28:

Looks good to me, though you might not want to serve an index at gemini://stack.tilde.cafe/ensemble/beta/

Has anyone solved any of the puzzles? Is it too hard? Too boring? Am I the only one who enjoys these?

๐Ÿง MelodyUwU ยท Oct 22 at 06:31:

I am too stupid to understand it so

๐Ÿš€ digler ยท Oct 22 at 13:07:

Now that I've found one 'set' and can confirm I understand the game, I think there's a few issues you could solve that would help people get into it:

1. An expanded how-to section. The language is a bit terse and there is no visual explanation for this very visual game.

2. On lagrange at least, the boxes are a little small and densely packed. I know there's a lot of clients out there so maybe it's tough to strike a good balance that applies to everyone. I suppose my suggestion is to consider whether there's anything you can do to increase a player's ability to easily distinguish between all the fills, borders, etc.

Yeah I don't fully get it, I tried many different match and I kind of almost get it but not...

๐Ÿš€ stack [OP] ยท Oct 22 at 19:31:

@digler: I will do a deeper help section. I had a better page but lost it between the rewrites.

Just zoom in! Especially easy on portable devices. There is not much I can do about the size. I've experimented with packing, and this seemed optimal. I am always fine-tuning though.

Note that fill corresponds to the card outline to help: thick outline for filled, thin for hollow, and dashed for shaded.

@daruma, sorry my help is not yet adequate. I am working on it. In the meantime, let me explain why your attempts failed:

Orange Orange Purple

CIL: a couple of problems:

1) Colors must be either all the same or all different. Orange, Orange, Purple -- not good!

2) Counts must be either all the same or all different. Two, Three, Two -- not good. Either go for all twos (or all threes) or 1,2,3!

You got the fill right - all different. The shapes are good too -- all same (squares).

Look at the orange tiles. No solution can be all orange, because the counts (2,3,3) are not all same/different, and the fill (solid, solid, hatched) do not work out either.

Spoilers ahead!

Now look at the greens - three of them are solid, promising. They also have counts of 1,2 3 - all different! Now, the shapes -- all different. Bingo!

There is also a simple all-purple solution -- with same counts. I will let you find it as a quick excercise.

Now we look for the all-different-colored solutions. Are there same-count ones? Look at ones. Green hatched square, purple solid triangle, so we need an orage single circle -- no luck. Twos? Orange solid squares, Green solid triangles, and yes, purple solid circles. Bingo!

There is one more answer there, and I will let you find it if you feel like it. (Check for any remaining twos, threes, and 1-2-3s)

Note that after doing a few puzzles, you will start getting an intuitive feel for them.

My daughter can glance at the board and rattle off solutions (or pull the cards IRL) in a couple of seconds. But she can also get the pangram in Spellbinding in a couple of seconds. Ah, to be young and smart!

๐Ÿ‘บ daruma ยท Oct 22 at 23:02:

Ah! Ok let me explain it in my own word to make sure I understand:

+The goal is to make as many groups of 3 tiles as possible.

+ There are 5 characteristics per tiles:

- Shapes (circle square triangle)

- Fill of shape (filled empty lined)

- Number of shape (1 2 3)

- Color (orange green pink)

- Outline pattern (outline dotted chubby)

+To create a group you have to match 3 tiles that respect the rules that each characteristics have to be all the same, or all different, not 2 the same and 1 different.

+You can also re-use the same tile for different groupings.

๐Ÿš€ stack [OP] ยท Oct 22 at 23:11:

Almost. There are FOUR qualities: color, count, shape and fill.

Since fill is really hard to see on tiny characters, the card outline matches the fill -- Thick for solid, thin for outline, and dashed for hatched

Also, each game has exactly four solutions.
