Ah crap, I dropped my guitar and one of the strings put a little dent in one of the frets. Hmm, how should I buff it out?

while we are talking bout guitars, what is your secret most underestimated song? I'd consider it slipping down the universe... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_eAWrJHfRo · 3 months ago

@five_over_four an inexpensive needle file set can get the job done. · 3 months ago

@whixr yeah i gotta find a file for that. don't have anything fine enough at the moment. · 3 months ago

@five_over_four Oof.

Electrical or masking tape on both sides of the fret to protect the fingerboard, then a small file to knock down the high spots.

If it still catches on bends after that then round out the edges of the dent.

If it still catches at that point then you'll have to pull that fret and install a new one. Replacing a fret requires some some specialty tools, and generally it makes sense to just do them all at that point.

Your local guitar tech is always an option too, of course. · 3 months ago

@bavarianbarbarian oh but it catches on bends and vibrato a bit so i gotta buff it. the guitar's 20 years old at this point so it definitely has some scuffs and nicks though. · 3 months ago

If it does not affend the sound, them keep it. that give history to you guitar. and remembers you not to drop her again ;) · 3 months ago
