@gritty Nice! Quite a delay. These days I’m online every day but much less than I used to and I it feels good too! · 2 months ago
@deerbard it's going good! I dropped off the Internet for some time (hence the delay). · 2 months ago
@gritty And how is it going for you? · 3 months ago
I'm on a similar challenge. I bought a flip phone. · 3 months ago
@deerbard i feel it every day, but i have a cat that who fills it a little bit. · 3 months ago
@bavarianbarbarian Feeling that empty hole in you, huh? Flat material world is not all that is. · 3 months ago
@deerbard i know that guy for i have romanian ancestors ;) he wrote a lot of stuff, but in my opinion way too much religion related. as a barbarian who wants to join valhall one day when i cross the bifröst i believe in the allfather Odin *kidding* joke, no, gods and ghosts are nothing i really believe in. but the idea of meeting my ancestors, drinking met all the time and have fun with the valkyries does not sound bad at all xD · 3 months ago
@bavarianbarbarian That reminds me there was some book by Mircea Eliade I wanted to read, don’t reacall the title though. · 3 months ago
@deerbard jep, maybe addict was the wrong term, i just like it to use it a lot. blacksmithing is a quite interesting hobby, you learn a lot about several steels, spring steel, hardened steel, construction site steel and so on, how much carbon is in the steel and even in the coal you are using for your fire. in the earlier times a blacksmith almost was a magician cos the worked with all 4 elements. · 3 months ago
@bavarianbarbarian Yeah, what I read from your reply is that you didn’t mean "addict", you were just saying you like it and use it a lot. Btw blacksmithing! This sounds very interesting! · 3 months ago
@deerbard i think i can consider myself as a nerd since i touched a computer for the first time. i was a professional sysadmin for several years, anyway i abadoned this profession for reasons... but still i like it to be online 24/7. even if i live in the bavarian outback, i have web access almost everywhere. not that i could live without it (i grew up in a world without internet), but i like it. my grand/father were very good teachers in craftsmanship, i can do blacksmithing, archery, cooking, brewing beer and so stuff, but why should i not use the web? this is the library of our times and my personal library of physical books is about 5000.... · 3 months ago
@bavarianbarbarian To me, if you say "addict", means you have a problem that makes your life difficult. But probably you didn’t mean that really, did you? · 3 months ago
definitly not, i am an online addict. just for to stay in contact with my friends, news, music, movies and so on.. · 3 months ago
@captainrantcraft Thank you for sharing! Yeah, it’s all bout improving a structure that helps to live instead of existing in some kind of mind fog. I already tried things like this several times. It works as well but I have to adjust every time I see it stops working. My rules might change with time, I might add hours/days of internet enterteinment fully allowed, I’ll see. · 3 months ago
Doing something a little similar. Get up early, do some coding, research and finally the urgencies of the day, then at 12-13 call it a day and go enjoy the real world. Before that I got up whenever, spent all my time doing shit on the computer and neglecting the world. Been on it for a few weeks now, seems to work. Actually increased my productivity a lot as I'm much more focussed on the tasks I wanna finish. Good luck with your really strict regime! · 3 months ago
Rules are simple and they’re up to you. If you procrastinate in internet, limit yourself, put a paper sheet on your wall and check every day you succeeded. My rules are: no internet on PC, if I connect, I put a timer for 10min, for every 10min I have to "pay" with a short physical exercise ex 5 pushups. Plus my phone needs to be always in one spot, not in reach of the arm, plus on my laptop I can use slownet, check wikipedia, weather, tutorials on things I need, things like this. Day one. Start. · 3 months ago
