No! It's not the Mark Twain! But honestly ever since I saw the
pictures of the Mark Twain about 4 months ago or so I've been reeling
this over in my mind. I took it over to the guy that had been the local
user groups President for 5+ years and showed him and he was very
impressed and said if I could have come out with this 10 years ago I
would be very rich today. :) Oh well a day late and a dollar short! Or
something like that.
What is unique about it is that it is very simple, so simple I'm
surprised someone didn't come up with it or similar a long time ago.
Here's a brief of what can be done.

				GS 3.5 Internal Modification
WARNING!!! - Do this at your own risk. I take no responsibility
for you trying this on your computer or anyone elses computer; GS or
otherwise. This is just a descrpition of what I did and it works for me.

(1)I used a face plate out of a 3.5 drive installation kit for
ibm and traced the front with a pencil onto the lid 1/4" from the top of
the lid and 3/4" from the left side. Which works well as it positions the
drive right above the Apple logo very nicely and looks very sharp, as if
it was meant to be there. There are some placstic ribs on the inside
toward the front in the way of the hole to be; take a pair of wire
cutters and snip off the extra plastic. Then drilled 6 holes (3 on one
side, inside the ablong drawing and 3 on the other side inside the oblong
drawing) closely to be able to get a jigsaw blade in then cut slowly
along the lines. The front of the drive rests in the oblong hole cut for
it in the front of the case. Also you can pick up a 3.5 dummy face plate
to cover up the hole if you need to remove the 3.5 drive for any period
of time (to minimize the dust and cosmetically look nice), these are
about .10 to .75 at a used computer store.
(2)Next I took 2 marker pen lids and used a soldering gun with a
pointed tip and made a hole in each of the lids in the very center. Then
placed a screw inside each pen lid and pushed the screw through the hole
with a screw driver(the size that would screw into the drive on it's
bottom). Then screwed each into the back of the drive on it's bottom side
for legs. Then looking at the drive from the top put a rubber tab/foot on
the open side of the left pen lid and on the right one a similar but
smaller rubber tab/foot. The left one rest near and behind the speaker.
(Those metal fins or what ever they are called on the left side of the
main part of the GS case; the fifth one back; must be bent up so the pen
lid will pass by it and rest behind the speaker). The right one rest on
the mother board on the front side and to the right a little below the
Apple //e chip next to a little round purple and black thing numbered
C59.
(3)Then to keep it in place a piece of 1 1/2" velcro (black-I
used black because I talked with some military guys a while back and they
said that the black velcro is the best there is of all the velcros out
there) on the top of the drive about 1" from the back of the drive going
the width. Then pulled the paper tab off the velcro and positioned it
then pressed firmly on the lid with the velcro in place. This keeps it in
place and also makes for a quick removal.
(4)Another thing is the metal shielding on the inside of the lid
must be modified a little. I cut the little plastic tabs holding it on
with a razor blade and kept them for replacing it. Then broke off all
those metal tabs except the last ten (this is looking from the top); I
believe they rest on the internal power supply. Then I used a jigsaw and
the right blade and cut the metal off the front completely. And put the
metal sheilding back in place and melted the plactic tabs back in place
with a soldering gun.
NOTE-You'll need an external power supply to accomplish this. For

And WALLA!!! GS 3.5 internal drive. Quick nad easy to remove for
repair but yet firmly in place until you want to move it. It looks nice
and the drive sits in place nicely and firmly! Now I just need to get the
cables all hooked up. I'll let you know how that goes.
						Later,
						   Mike :)
